The
traditional method to determin the hematocrit is labour intensive and
involves expensive laboratory equipment. |

The
laser beam is conducted from transparent bottom into the cuvette. The
value of the intensity signal alters with the change of blood density.
A direct correlation between the intensity signal and the blood density
could be proved.

Technical
background

The laser light is largely scattered by the red blood
cells. A large portion of the light will be absorbed by the cells and
with increased densitiy a reduction in light reflection can be noticed.
At the same time, the transparency of the blood serum causes an irregular
penetration of the laser light; therefore the distance signals are not
evaluable, but the intensity signal is readable. |

The M5 sensor is the predecessor
of the now available M7 distance sensor. With
an increased sampling frequency of 54 kHz measurings of fast moving objects can be made. |
